The Outpost is perfect place for school children of all ages to see the real New Zealand as it is the old Mangarkau primary schoolhouse. Nestled into the Kahurangi National Park, New Zealand's newest national park, at 452,002 hectares it is also one of the largest. Translated its name has a number of meanings including treasured possession and blue skies.
In places it is an untracked wilderness; elsewhere a network of tracks lets you explore rivers, plateaus, alpine herb fields, and coastal forests.
With beds for up to 28, a large kitchen and dining, children will have a great place to stay and base themselves whilst experiencing nature and wilderness at its finest. Our 4,000 square metre grounds have ample space for ball games and team activities with room left over for those who want to learn to pitch their own tent and wake to the dawn chorus.
